David Abel
David Abel is an arts management industry veteran with experience in producing commercial and not-for-profit theatre and managing performing arts organizations of all sizes. He is a recipient of the Mallory Gilbert Leadership Award, recognizing outstanding leadership in Canadian theatre, and was an Inaugural Fellow of the Toronto Arts Council/Banff Centre Cultural Leaders Lab. An Executive of the Board of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres (PACT) for six years, David has consulted for theatres across Canada, is a mentor for Business for the Arts, and is currently or has served as a peer juror for the Toronto Arts Council, the Ontario Arts Council, the Metcalf Foundation, and the City of Toronto’s Major Cultural Organizations granting program.
David began his career with Mirvish Productions in 1987, starting his producing career as Assistant Producer of the original Canadian tours of LES MISERABLES, and going on to spend nine years with the Mirvishes. David moved to Canadian Stage in 1996, with the portfolios of Executive Producer, General Manager and ultimately Managing Director, overseeing all of the company’s business and theatrical affairs. In 2012, David joined the Art of Time Ensemble as Executive Director, and is working in partnership with Artistic Director Andrew Burashko in realizing Mr. Burashko’s extraordinary artistic vision.
